Some rooms that have well-coordinated color schemes and distinctive furniture lack that certain something in appeal. This is most probably because the colors, although by themselves harmonious, lack depth. This situation is similar to colored font that does not have a background silhouette. Everything about it might be balanced and well formed but it lacks emphasis. Just as we accent colored fonts with a background color that is darker, so should we accent the color scheme of a room with something like black area rugs.
