Many writers, beginners especially, would get their ideas for fiction from their own lives. There are reasons why this is useful, such as relating directly to the main character, you’re not likely basing your book on what you’ve read, and your emotionally invested in the topic. But remember, just because you find this thing that happened to you or your child fascinating, it doesn’t mean it will be fascinating to thousands of potential readers.
